Just got home from LACES with fresh paint still on my hands, arms, legs and hair. As you can tell from these pictures, School Pride's theme today was PAINT! PAINT! PAINT! Many volunteers contributed their painting skills but we are in desperate need of more painters! It doesn't matter what time you show up! Come at anytime and you will be promptly handed a paintbrush.
NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!
There were 6 of us working in one classroom tonight and it took us 5 hours to finish one coat. ONE COAT! Now, this could be because we aren't very savvy painters but none-the-less, we will need as many people painting classrooms the next few days. Perhaps I'll borrow my father in laws spray gun...but there's no guarantee I'll keep the paint from spraying the white boards. OK, maybe some experience is required.Juniors Ryan & Keiko painting a classroom. We have some of the most loyal and committed students. Keiko spent hours taping the class for this paint session. Thank you Ryan & Keiko!
Midnight Crew of Painters on a break. They will be working until at least 2 a.m. while I sit in the comfort of my home blogging.
Paint supplies waiting for the morning group of volunteers.
Ms. Vizas, Joyce and Shane painting Rm. 132. Ms. Vizas is a NEW Social Studies Teacher at LACES! She has yet to teach any of our kids but here she is (with boyfriend Shane) painting all night long. We appreciate her dedication to LACES. She is awesome! Students will love her. Very committed to student learning and using fresh and innovative teaching methods. She will be teaching 7th & 8th grade History classes. News travels fast! (Sorry Dr. Kim).
[Side note: Found out Shane went to school with my cousin Stephanie @ Arcadia High. Small world @ School Pride Headquarters.]
Auditorium stage coming along very nicely since the deconstruction.
Auditorium painter is happy to be at LACES at Midnight. No, Really! He is!
Midnight Auditorium painting crew.
Fresh cabinets and coutertops for the Culinary Arts Room.
The other half of Culinary Arts Room...still under quite a bit of construction.
FINALLY! MUSIC ROOM PHOTOS! The lead paint has been officially removed so I could meander into Dr. Monarch's class. New drywall installed today.
Practice rooms are getting an overhaul as well. New walls, paint & acoustics.
It doesn't matter how dark it gets, the Quad Landscaping project works through the night.
I'm impressed with these Landscapers. They dig, shovel and move rocks & dirt all day long and are STILL laughing it up.
As you can see, lots of progress has been made but we are only finishing up DAY 2 and there is SO MUCH MORE TO BE DONE! Thank you to everyone who has been able to volunteer their time. Thank you to all who will be contributing their time this week.
ANNOUNCEMENT! Please send School Pride photos for blog upload to laces.blog@gmail.com Particularly PICTURES of DAY #3, July 2, 2010. I will be at a noon wedding tomorrow and won't be ble to pop in to take daytime pics. Yup, a noon wedding on a Friday. It's a looooong story...
Oh, and sorry for the gritty pics. My blackberry was protesting being out late past curefew.
