SCHOOL PRIDE DAY #3 - July 2, 2010

SCHOOL PRIDE - DAY#3

July 2, 2010

As I walked through the new Quad Path tonight, I forgot I was even at LACES! The new quad area feels like your strolling through an elite arboretum garden. It will be quite the sanctuary for our LACES students. Another big development today was the installation of the NEW BLUE seats in the auditorium. Although the old chairs possess and element of nostalgia, the new seats are comfortable, spacious and well, NEW (see photo below).

The rest of today's blog is DEDICATED TO OUR TIRELESS VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE BEEN WORKING ALL DAY AND AS LATE AS 2 a.m. (I'm part of the late night crew myself).

Painting classrooms is the primary responsibility of the LACES VOLUNTEERS! I am so proud of our LACES students, parents, friends and families. Our volunteer crews are scrubbing, cleaning, scraping and painting. In many cases with limited supplies and resources. We used scissors last night to remove an old radiator cover to clean layers of dust and dirt.

Unpacking and installing new blue chairs in Aud.

Mr. Lieberman and his student crew prepping for painting. FYI - He didnt' leave campus until close to midnight! Now that's a summer vacation!

NO FEAR! Ladders are desperately needed!

Thank you to all the LACES volunteers! We appreciate your loyalty and dedication to this awesome opportunity. AMAZING! Your efforts are documented in the photos below....

So inspiring to see families, kids, adults, friends etc. working together to make LACES an incredible environment of learning.

What a supportive crew!

OK, so things get a little crazy after 1 a.m. Volunteerism does NOT feel like work. It really is inspiring. Family and friends from South Gate, East L.A., Pasadena, El Sereno & Lincoln Heights came together and bonded in Room 151. Senior Randi (with her unicorn symbol) gets paint dumped on her head as Rachel and Dulce paint her.

Checking in supplies after a looooong afternoon and evening. THANK YOU Sabrina & Leilanie

Phew, it was a long night of cleaning and painting. Time for rest until tomorrow night. Thank you Moncy, Erica & Stephanie
