School Pride Day #4
July 3, 2010
July 3, 2010
Hello Blog Followers! As usual, another day at LACES was spent painting, cleaning, moving and scrubbing. Although I personally missed the activities of the day (overnight trip) I still have plenty of news to report from the front lines. Thank you to Pam & Maggie for School Pride updates & photos throughout the day.
Construction crews worked in the auditorium (sound system & stage); quad area continues to be beautified with a very life-like astroturf. Some kids have found their "spots" in the quad and were hanging out there today already! Painting of LACES school colors continues on exterior buildings. Music, Art & Culinary Arts Rooms continue with additional construction and specialty renovations.
Time to THANK the School Pride Team of Designers, Producers, Talent & Staff. We are very grateful that LACES students will have an opportunity to learn in this new environment. This is truly a GIFT that has been showered upon one of the best school's in the nation! Without School Pride support or funding, LACES teachers, administrators and students would have NEVER enjoyed a school environment of this caliber. I know that my children, along with most other students at LACES, have not had an opportunity to be part of a school environment with so many significant renovations. For the first time in their school careers, most of our students will have the pleasure of going to school in a clean, renovated environment.
FACT: By the time children graduate from 12th grade, they will have spent 14,000 hours at school. The majority of our students will have spent more than half of these hours at LACES - that's 7,000+ hours! They will also spend more waking hours at school than in their own homes! Children and youth have a RIGHT to learn in a new, clean and fresh environment. The SCHOOL PRIDE make-over, repairs and renovations will ultimately support a positive school and classroom climate that will enrich the learning experiences of our students (Yes, I have access to data that supports these facts and claims but I refuse to include APA citations during 4th of July weekend - I have a limit...) We are appreciative that School Pride has afforded our students an opportunity to experience a school environment that supports quality learning. THANK YOU SCHOOL PRIDE TEAM for selecting LACES students to be rewarded with this gift. (Perhaps this should be called a "Blahg")

1. Not all the renovations and design remodels may be consistent with what you had in mind for LACES. But that's OK! We are still getting a fantastic school environment for our kids from some of the best designers in Los Angeles for FRRREEEEEE. Without School Pride & NBC-Universal (insert exaggerated sarcasm), we'd still be waiting 4 more months for a light bulb to be replaced (amusing myself again).
2. Some parents have been wondering the gender of this blog author. One parent stated the blog was written with a "masculine" voice. Most of you already know who this is but for those of you who have been speculating...my gender is female. The exlamation points and CAPS are a DEAD give-away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And this winking smiley face ; ) too.
3. Forgive the typos and grammatical errors. I blog late at night after an evening of painting, scraping and cleaning. Almost 2 a.m. now. Elise S. should really be editing this blog!
4. SEND School Pride photos to laces.blog@gmail.com. Please add names of individuals in photos so they can be identified in this blog. I accept all photos and reject all complaints.
5. Happy 4th of July! Enjoy the Holiday. Secure your pets so you don't get a deep, gash on your neck from your cat when the bombs go off. Uh, yeah...true story.
SEE YOU ALL BRIGHT AND EARLY ON MONDAY MORNING FOR SCHOOL PRIDE DAY #5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ; ) : P ; D (Last stab at self amusement).
